Anaea aidea occurs in Mexico and Central America south to northwestern Costa Rica. Strays were recorded in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, and also in Arizona, California, etc. This species is found along edges and streams in dry tropical forest, where adults often perch high in trees. They feed on sap, rotting fruit, and dung. The caterpillars feed on Croton spp. (Euphorbiaceae).
